Children’s Book Outline

Group 5: Aliya Masihuddin, Jenna Fiorentino, David Agbato

Storyline: 

  • Starts off child who has trouble sleeping caused by sleep deprivation leading to  nightmares 

Message / Lesson of the book: Importance of getting good sleep

Description of target audience: Young kids and teaching them the importance of them getting good sleep / the benefits of it. It caters to them using images / descriptive words to make them excited about getting good sleep.

Characters:  An American Family : the child who can’t sleep and his mother. The doctor and monsters from nightmare. 

Specific Details: 

Ethan, age 10, only child, has his own room, Caucasian and blonde 

Mother, age 38, Caucasian and blonde

Doctor, age 40, African American and brunette

Outline:

  1. Ethan is having a nightmare and wakes up screaming
  2. Mother goes to his room and asks what is wrong, Ethan tells her he had another nightmare. Mother realizes this is a common occurrence.
    1. Dialogue 

Mother : What time did you go to bed last night?

Ethan : I don’t remember. I just remember watching television till the sun came up.

  1. Mother says she will take him to the doctors 
  2. **Next Scene** Ethan and Mother go to the doctors. Doctor comes in, asks what is wrong and Ethan says he has been having nightmares 
  3. The doctor asks if he has been getting enough sleep, and Ethan says he hasn’t been getting sleep because he is afraid of the nightmares
  4. The doctor explains that sleep is important, and explains all the benefits of it: opportunity that the brain has to heal, restore nutrients and remove toxic substances, improves memory and health. Good things he can dream about: toys, candy, tv, beach, amusement park.  
  5. Ethan promises he will go to bed early / on his bedtime. 
  6. **Next Scene** Mom is putting Ethan to bed. He is excited for all the possible things he can dream about. 
    1. Dialogue 

Mother : Are you ready to go to bed?

Ethan: Yes!! I’m so excited! I can’t wait to dream about cars, candy, toys, giraffes, 

bunnies, and marshmallows!

  1. Him dreaming and dream bubble of all the good things he dreamed about
  2. Ethan wakes up the next morning, excited to tell his mom he had no nightmares. Ethan is excited to dream again and get good sleep.
